Job Description:

OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Responsible for scheduling appointments for patients with a provider using the computerized scheduling system. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optum's commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer. * Receives and processes multiple incoming calls for appointments. * Schedules appointments in accordance with physician and/or department requirements. * Coordinates with other departments as necessary. * Verifies patient demographics and insurance information, and updates changes as needed. * Confirms appointments according to site policy. * Cancels/reschedules appointments according to provider schedule changes. Notifies appropriate clinic staff. * Sends pre-visit information to patients according to site policy. * Runs bump list and other reports as required. * Communicates appropriate information to providers or assistants in the office and to the Business/Eligibility department as needed. * Adheres to Universal Precautions at all times. * Adheres to safety policies and procedures at all times. * Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards. * Performs additional duties as assigned. EDUCATION: * High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Includes special certification required for specific jobs. EXPERIENCE: Minimum: * Up to and including 1 year of experience. Preferred: * Previous medical appointment scheduling experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: * Computer literate. * Basic keyboard skills. * Ability to type 25 wpm. * Knowledge of medical terminology. * Customer service-oriented. You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting or other company location, however, may be required to work from home temporarily due to space limitations.
