Duration: 6 months contract Job Description: Working Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM PST - 40 HRS a week/ possible OT when emergency happens. This position plays a critical role in supporting manufacturing operations, specifically maintaining and repairing vacuum systems (dry pumps) used in high-volume production environments. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, physically capable, safety-conscious, and willing to work in confined spaces and high places within a physically demanding, loud, and industrial setting. The technician will collaborate closely with engineers and other bilingual team members (Chinese and Vietnamese-speaking), contributing to equipment setups, experiments, troubleshooting, and logging operational data. Candidates with hands-on experience in industrial equipment repair—especially vacuum or pump systems—are highly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities: Perform disassembly, maintenance, installation, and reassembly of dry vacuum systems (primarily Edwards Dry Pumps). Support engineers during experimental setups, including equipment installation and machine performance monitoring. Conduct preventive and reactive maintenance, including troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems. Work in confined and elevated environments, requiring physical maneuvering around gas and water lines. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and initiate or assist in repair procedures. Uphold safety protocols, including proper use of tools and PPE such as respirators. Utilize basic physics principles to handle tools and equipment safely, preventing self-injury or equipment damage. Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical roles involving equipment maintenance or repair. Experience working in manufacturing, HVAC, automotive repair, or heavy machinery is highly preferred. Comfortable working in physically intense environments, including: Confined spaces beneath machines Elevated positions using ladders Dusty, wet, loud, or vibration-heavy settings Prior exposure to vacuum systems, cryopumps, or similar industrial equipment. Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools used in pump or machinery repair. Basic knowledge of physics principles (e.g., leverage, torque) for safe equipment handling. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and follow technical instructions. Physically capable of lifting, maneuvering, and working in challenging positions for extended periods. Basic computer proficiency to log maintenance actions and equipment status reports. Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills, especially in a multilingual environment Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Technical certifications or training in mechanical/electrical fields are a plus.
